COOPERATIVE INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH PROGRAM(CIRP) FRESHMAN SURVEY

Participants: 

 

Incoming first year (i.e., direct entry) students
Content:
  • Student characteristics including parental income and education, ethnicity, and other demographic items;
  • Financial aid
  • High school achievement and activities
  • Expectations for college
  • Educational and career goals and plans
  • Values, attitudes, beliefs, and self-concept
Type of Data Collection:    Paper and pencil survey
Administration Schedule:  

 

Annually, during freshman summer orientation
Background:

 

The CIRP Freshman Survey is a national survey sponsored by the Higher Education Research Institute (HERI) that is completed by over 400,000 entering students at approximately 700 higher education institutions.  The information collected via this survey provides valuable baseline data about our new student population.   Further, since UCLA has participated in the CIRP Freshman Survey for over 30 years, we have collected valuable information on trends over time.
