2005 TRANSITIONS STUDY

Participants:

New transfer students entering in Fall 2005
Content:
  • General impressions of the campus
  • Ability to handle course material
  • Interactions with faculty, teaching assistants and classmates
  • Involvement in out-of-class activities, jobs, experiences living on/near campus or commuting to UCLA.
  • Advice to future transfer students
  • Suggestions to UCLA for how to improve services
Type of Data Collection:    Online journals, one-on-one interviews, and focus groups

Administration Schedule:

Fall 2005 to early Winter 2006

Background:

This study examined how transfer students were making the transition to UCLA as it happened, rather than months after the students had become acclimated to their classes, the campus, its services, and the student body. We were interested in how new students viewed their transfer experiences, as well as how they were introduced to and able to navigate the campus in the first few months after arriving.
