The Cooperative Institutional Research Program (CIRP) Freshman Survey

Welcome to the 2019 UCLA Incoming Freshman Survey information page!

Welcome to UCLA.  We are so pleased to have you as part of the Bruin community.  As you may already know, UCLA is dedicated to a student-centered program of assessment and will regularly ask you and your fellow students to provide feedback throughout your academic career here.  Your responses to campus surveys are a critical resource for us in our decisions about student programs and campus policies.  We encourage you to use these surveys as a way to get your voice heard and to help us improve the undergraduate experiences for your class and for future cohorts of UCLA students.

WHAT IS THE COOPERATIVE INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH PROGRAM (CIRP)?

The Cooperative Institutional Research Program (CIRP) Freshman Survey is part of a national study of higher education conducted by the Higher Education Research Institute at UCLA. The data gathered are used in studies designed to better understand student learning and development and to help improve the quality of college education. The 2019 Cooperative Institutional Research Program (CIRP) Freshman Survey is an online survey administered to incoming first-year students during the summer and early fall, prior to starting at UCLA.

You can click here to view reports and profiles of incoming transfer classes that have been created from previous surveys.

HOW DO I PARTICIPATE IN THE CIRP Freshman Survey?

Starting July 1, 2019, if you volunteer to participate in this survey, you will receive a unique link.  To access the survey, log onto “MyUCLA” and click on “Notices”.  You will find a unique link that will take you to the survey.

You may choose not to answer any specific questions that make you feel uncomfortable. For more information about participation, view the Participant Information Sheet.

PARTICIPATE FOR A CHANCE TO WIN!

Students who complete the survey will be entered into a drawing for 26 prizes totaling $1300, including Apple Airpods, $75 Amazon Gift Card, $50 Amazon Gift Card, and $25 Target Gift Card ranging from $50 to $75.  For a complete list of prizes click here: CIRP 2019 Prize List.

This letter must be received by September 15th, 2019 to be entered in the final drawing. If you would like to be entered in the interim prize drawings, your eligibility starts one day after our receipt of the letter.  Winners will be randomly selected from all eligible entries received.  Email notifications will be sent to all winners instructing them on where to collect their prize.  Winners will be responsible for any shipping cost associated with mailing of prize if in person pick up does not occur.  Chances of winning are 1 in 250.

POTENTIAL BENEFITS & RISKS

You have the opportunity to reflect on your prior academic experiences and your expectations for college as you complete the survey, which can enhance self-understanding. Results of your participation also will be directly beneficial to UCLA, and may benefit future generations of college students as well. There could be survey items that you are uncomfortable answering or to which you would simply prefer not to respond.  Your participation in this study is strictly voluntary, and you will be under no obligation whatsoever to answer any questions that you are not inclined to answer.  You may choose not to answer any specific questions you do not want to answer and still remain in the study.
